Oregon Lottery to launch mobile sports betting next week
The state of Oregon only has one legal online betting avenue, the Oregon Lottery Scoreboard, which has just launched. This portal will give enthusiasts the chance to place their bets on their favourite players in their favourite sports. This application has been anticipated from a long time amongst the betting community in Oregon. This application will be available on many software platforms – a mobile application for both Android and iOS devices, as well as a desktop website that can be directly accessed from the web. For the iOS platform, users can get the app from the Apple App Store, whereas for the Android Platform, they will have to go to the official website to download the app from there.
This is the parent company’s first foray into the mobile sports betting niche, and they are looking to scale up the enterprise to start offering in-venue betting options to their clientele as well. This opportunity will be offered at a few select Oregon Lottery locations and is slated to happen from 2020. The state of Oregon is one of thirteen states in the USA that have legalised betting and it is one of nine states that have gone ahead to offer an online option to exercise betting options. Why is Oregon unique? Well, it is because it is the first state to develop a state sponsored application to be used solely for mobile betting on professional sporting games.
The experience when using the application will be as follows – firstly players who are looking to start betting on sports games will need to go through an online registration and a verification process. Once this process is done, players get access to their accounts, in which they can start adding funds, create wagers on a bunch of professional sports ranging from NASCAR to the NFL with everything in between as well. There are a ton of betting options available to the end user, from single wagers, live betting, the ability to bet through the gameplay, and much more. The platform is also secured by a geolocation filter, that only permits legal residents of the Oregon area to play on the platform, and people who live in the tribal grounds are not permitted to use this application. This application requires that its users be above twenty one years of age in order to be able to legally use it.
The Director of the Oregon Lottery, Mr. Barry Pack is very optimistic about the future of this mobile application, and says, “This is an exciting day for Lottery, as we launch a new game and a new sales channel. This game allows Lottery to attract new players – increasing revenue for important state programs without relying on current players to play or wager more.”
Few people are opposed to the idea, stating that the presence of a mobile application at the fingertips will allow people who have compulsive betting tendencies to easily access sports betting, and that this will allow them to start compulsively betting and lose control.
